More than 300 people, including federal, state and local leaders as well as 120 students, attended the homelessness summit that was hosted by the USC Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy and the USC Sol Price Center for Social Innovation.

A new poll from the University of Southern California Sol Price School of Public Policy and the USC Schwarzenegger Institute found that nearly 52 percent of those surveyed either agreed or strongly agreed that they support removing homeless tent encampments from public spaces. However, that attitude changed when the federal government came up.

Painter said that the proposed use of eminent domain, while uncommon, is part of the wider issue of affordability in Los Angeles, but added that as more affordable housing-related covenants expire more efforts to extend the affordability they provided will spring up.
