Book Tour: Payment by Results and Social Impact Bonds: Outcome-based Payment Systems in the UK and US – Manchester Metropolitan University

Tue, June 12, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Kevin Albertson, Chris Fox and Chris O’Leary from PERU and Gary Painter from USC the will be speaking at a launch event on the 12th June at Manchester Metropolitan University.

A new book, Payment by Results and Social Impact Bonds, jointly authored by experts from Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Southern California and Nonprofit Finance evaluates what’s known to date about the effectiveness of an approach to contracting that ties payment for service delivery to the achievement of measurable outcomes. The approach includes Payment by Results and Social Impact Bonds in the UK and Pay for Success in the US. Regardless of differences in implementation between the UK and US, this approach offers a way for governments to scale up effective programs and interventions, as well as test innovative models of service delivery.

Speakers:

  • Professor Gary Painter, Director of the Sol Price Center for Social Innovation at the University of Southern California
  • Professor Kevin Albertson, Professor of Economics at Manchester Metropolitan University
  • Professor Chris Fox, Director of the Policy Evaluation and Research Unit, Manchester Metropolitan University
  • Dr. Chris O’Leary, Deputy Director of the Policy Evaluation and Research Unit, Manchester Metropolitan University

Governments on both sides of the Atlantic are attracted to financing models that encourage social innovation, but challenges persist around when and how to apply these outcomes-based models, and how to right-size these investments, according to a new book.

Hosted by Manchester Metropolitan University’s think tank, MetroPolis. MetroPolis is an academically led think-tank interested in a wider range of regional, national and international social and economic policies. It connects practitioners, academics and policymakers to help academics maximize the impact of their research.
