At Brooklyn Avenue Elementary, a K-8 elementary school in East Los Angeles, nine out of ten students are low-income and Latino. Brooklyn Avenue has been able to achieve high English Language Arts results for its students, with nearly seven out of ten students on grade level on this exam.
“There is a high level of collective efficacy with our staff that creates trust across all our grade-level teams. Teams develop cohesive plans for what students should be able to know and do at the end of each grade level in order to be successful for the next year. Our teachers plan with the end in mind and have trust that the previous teacher did the same. They hold others to the same accountability they hold for themselves.”
